In this blog post I want to clarify the wrong perception that it is “unpatriotic” to hire foreign workers. The general “patriotic” view of outsourcing US. jobs to workers in other countries is that it displaces US workers with low-cost foreign workers. That is a flawed perspective.
Also I want to discuss why hiring Filipino workers are a very good alternative to layoffs and raising your prices.
Let’s examine the real-world economy and how companies can scale faster, grow faster and hire more US workers, as a result of the cost efficiency of hiring Virtual Assistants from the Philippines.
First, let’s face the hard truth that staffing, both financially and just in terms of finding available talent is problematic for businesses. The simple truth is that it is becoming more difficult to hire and keep employees motivated and efficient. The drain on a company is substantial and expensive. There is now a new level of expense in search and marketing for almost all levels of skilled labor.
Second, the ancillary expense of U.S. labor. These additional costs, which may include payroll taxes, workers’ compensation insurance, employer-paid benefits, paid time off, and job-specific expenses like safety training or personal protective equipment are also growing.
The ancillary cost, taken together with rising salary expectations accrues to a company having to choose to either, reduce staff by eliminating jobs and putting a higher work standard for existing employees, already burdened with “burnout,” or raising prices for its products and services, often resulting in lost revenue and stagnant growth or worse, declining market share and eventually resulting in more layoffs across the board.
So, by outsourcing certain positions, a company can scale quicker, and also reduce costs substantially. The natural outcome is higher profit and faster growth. This results in a company regaining stability. When a company is stable and growing, the most immediate benefit is for existing employees. A stable and profitable company creates more US jobs, not the other way around.
But most importantly is customer satisfaction. What does it take to satisfy customers? By outsourcing routine tasks to foreign workers at significant cost savings, frees up US employees to focus on higher-value work and concentrating on customer satisfaction.
Not to mention 24/7 Operations. With VAs in different time zones, businesses can operate around the clock, improving service delivery. Also, virtual assistants from the Philippines often bring unique skills that can complement US teams, enhancing overall performance.
Companies can quickly scale their workforce by adding Virtual Assistants from the Philippines, as needed, supporting growth without the overhead of full-time hires. By outsourcing administrative tasks, US workers can concentrate on strategic initiatives that drive business success.
Additionally, statistics show that staff performance and attitudes have been creating a problem in the workplace. A very subtle benefit, which is often overlooked, is the character analysis of a Filipino worker. Filipinos are generally humble and enthusiastic. Living is hard in the Philippines. The people have learned that to survive, they must work hard and “keep their head down.” Job security to them is crucial. Often, the “bread winner” supports parents and other family members. Consequently, a worker guards their job security carefully, which accrues to “less drama” for an employer, that often deals with ego’s and office politics.
Not to say that Filipino workers come to work with their “tail between their legs,” but they appreciate having a job. Wages to them don’t mean owning and buying a larger house or getting a new car every few years. Wages to them make it possible for them to eat and provide basic needs for their families, such as energy cost and paying rent.
Not only does this create a worker with a friendly disposition and willingness to “do whatever it takes” to retain their employment, but they have learned how to use technology that is required to be efficient in the modern workplace.
Filipinos are exceptionally skilled in computer skills and other technologies. Skills that American workers often “push-down” to a lower echelon worker within their organization. That is how a Filipino worker can often do the job of 1 ½ US workers, at significant labor cost savings.
The bottom line is that outsourcing certain staff positions to Filipino workers makes sense for an employer facing some of the issues covered in this blog.
